The humble sheet of plywood is currently enjoying the limelight at the moment with some rather good results, ranging from whole rooms in ply, to more do-able results such as creating a shelf or notice board with just a sheet or two. Floors are also getting a bit of a makeover by using the sheets to create a very realistic wooden flooring effect, cheaper than engineered flooring but just as pleasing on the eye.
